Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Prevention

Overview

The Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Prevention course assists airport personnel to understand the threat posed by FOD and explores the key elements of a FOD program that can help airports to successfully manage this threat. 

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand what FOD is and the serious threat it poses.
  • Explain the fundamentals of FOD management programs.
  • Outline specific FOD training requirements and program content.
  • Understand how effective FOD prevention procedures can improve safety.
  • Recommend FOD inspection procedures and detection technologies.
  • Identify effective FOD removal procedures and equipment.
  • Understand the importance of, and how to, analyse FOD data and evaluate FOD program effectiveness.

  • The fundamental elements of effective FOD management programs.
  • Key FOD prevention activities and procedures:
    • Awareness.
    • Training.
    • Assessing and Managing FOD Risk.

FOD Detection

  • The importance of FOD detection.
  • The most effective procedures to be used in FOD detection at the airport.
  • Key considerations in implementing FOD inspections.
  • FOD detection technologies and their benefits.

FOD Removal

  • Effective FOD removal procedures and practices at the airport.
  • FOD removal equipment.

FOD Evaluation

  • Evaluating FOD program effectiveness.
  • FOD incident investigation and resolution.
  • Maintaining FOD documentation.
  • FOD data analysis.

Assessment

This course includes an integrated online assessment.

Candidates must successfully complete the assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion.
